There are four main types of bulb holders. hese are Edison, small Edison, Bayonet and small Bayonet. These are important for the selection of LED bulbs, whether existing or new accessories.
Edison/Bayonet-Socket
The most common light bulb sockets are the E14 and E27, the number is being based on the diameter (in mm) of the bulb thread. The identification 'E' refers to the Edison rotary thread, which is simply screwed into the corresponding fitting.
Additionally there is also the B22 socket, referring to the Bayonet socket, which you only have to plug in and rotate for 180°.
G4
These are for all those really intricate or decorative fixtures.
G4 fixtures are very commonly used in under-cabinets, for decorative purposes or in RV lighting.

Shell - The exterior top of the lamp socket, locks into the base
UNO Thread - A tapped portion of the shell for connecting a lamp shade with an UNO fitter
Mogul - A large specialty socket made for Mogul bulbs, found mostly in floor lamps
Keyless - A socket that does not have a switch in the socket body, used with cord switches or chandeliers
Push Through - Toggle switch in the socket turns on/off by pushing the rod of the switch
Pull Chain - Socket switch operated by pulling the connected chain
