It's interesting to decorate a suit with new jewelry; however, finding the right Necklace Length to buy can be tricky. You may have bought a necklace just to wear it and find it too long or too short. We are here to help! There are several standard lengths for necklaces, and once you know these lengths, it's much easier to buy the perfect necklace.

Standard (or princess) length necklaces (usually 45cm or 18") are the most commonly worn length and will suit most situations. If you're looking for a necklace or pendant to wear day to day, then this is likely to be your go-to length.

This length will generally sit above the neckline for lower cut clothing or over the top of crew necked and other high necked outfits. If you're wearing a pendant at this length it will sit in a pleasing V shape which will frame your face.

 

If you are tall or have a larger frame, then try a matinee length necklace (usually 55cm or 22”) to get a similar effect.

For women:

14 inches: Place - tightly around the neck. It's best to wear open-necked clothes, such as large round collar, V-collar, shoulder bare and collar.

16 inches: Close to the bottom of the throat; usually called choke. Almost everything is best dressed.

18 inches: on the clavicle; the most common size. Almost everything is best dressed.

20 to 24 inches: between clavicle and chest. It's best suited for business and leisure wear.

28 to 36 inches: Position - 1 to 2 inches above or below the bust. It's best to wear a high collar and evening dress.

36 to 42 inches: Location - wrapped in the center or just below the bust. It is best suited to elegant business and evening wear.

For men:

18 inches: Position - the bottom of a small man's neck.

20 inches: Location - clavicle; most common size.

22 inches: Position - a few inches below the clavicle; medals can be added.

24 inches: Location - above the sternum.
